Duration / 2 Weeks
Role / Visual / Interface Design, Wireframes, Prototyping

During a two week project my team performed user research on features of a mobile app which would simplify pet ownership. Based on the results of surveying over 40 pet owners we decided to focus on vaccinations. Providing pets proper and timely vaccinations is key to a healthy lifestyle. Vaccinations ensure pets are protected from diseases but are difficult to keep track of. Compawdre is a mobile app which simplifies the process of tracking past vaccinations and scheduling future ones.

Goals

Quick Registration / Users are able to quickly signup with the application. The Facebook integration reduces the need for users to create an additional account and seamlessly integrates their info.

Tailored Content / Personalized profiles can be created for each of the users pets for customized notifications.

Better Health / Pet owners will reduce the chances of missing vaccinations. This will ensure their pets are protected from any diseases leading to happier healthier pets.

Persona

User Persona / The team used Survey Monkey to create a survey which was placed on Petco's forums.Over 40 pet owners responded to the survey. On average owners rated the importance of pet health as a 8.9 out of 10 scale and although 75% of them didn't have mobile apps for anything pet related they were interested in a app focused on pet health.

Meet Jackie / She just got a new puppy and is really excited as a first time pet owner and dog mom. She is comfortable with using apps to simplify her life.

Wireframes

Compawdre was the first project in my bootcamp so the designed process focused on developing a wireframe and prototype. I leveraged Adobe XD and some Sticker Sheet assets available for Android in order to design the screens. These black and white designs in the Wireframe would be foundation of my high fidelityprototype.

Design

The colors chosen were vibrant with colors reminiscent of PETCO. The orange worked well to highlight call to action buttons. Since orange can represent enthusiasm and warmth it worked well.

The Facebook sign on integration allowed users to sign up even faster without having to create a new account. Users could also signup using their e-mail and reset their passwords from the Sign In page.

The Android Calendar function was used to allow a pet owner to quickly choose a date of birth for the pet. Since the app was design for new pet owners the app defaults the calendar to the current month while allowing the owner to choose a earlier date through a common interface.

The birthday of the Pet was used to auto calculate the dates the Pet should get vaccinations. The user would be notified as the date approaches and has a option of switching the vaccination to complete after it is administered.

Reflection

The wireframe and prototype were built with a very limited timeline during the beginning of class. Given more time I would apply skill sets acquired by the end of the class to include additional features such as integration of more social communications between pet owners.
